“At that time Jesus prayed as follows: Father, Lord of the heavens and the earth, I thank you that YOU HIDDEN these things from those who consider themselves wise and educated, and revealed them to the ones who are as children. My Father has given me all things. No one really knows the Son but the Father, and no one really knows the Father except the Son and those whom the Son chooses to reveal. ” Matthew 11: 25-27

In this passage, Jesus thanks God for the revelation given to his little ones of whom he really is (the Son of God) and makes it clear that this knowledge is given only by the Spirit of God, to whom he chooses to reveal His truth and purpose. To the sages of this world, nothing is revealed, since they have already chosen to trust their own wisdom.

God chooses “those who are like children”, not the pure in heart, as we tend to think, but rather the least important, those who are not considered by society, the despised. If we look closely at God’s chosen ones throughout history , we will see that for the most part they were the last ones, people who were not important and without much education.

He chooses the little ones to show how great His power is, and to despise the wisdom of this world, and what it values.

As the passage in I Corinthians 1: 27-28 says, “But God chose the foolish things of this world to confound the wise; and God chose the weak things of this world to confound the strong: and God hath chosen the vile things of this world, and the despised things, and the things that are not, to destroy them which are.”

“Naquela ocasião, Jesus orou da seguinte maneira: Pai, Senhor dos céus e da terra, eu te agradeço porque ESCONDESTE estas coisas dos que se consideram SÁBIOS e instruídos, e as revelaste aos que são como crianças. Sim, Pai, foi do teu agrado fazê-lo assim.Meu Pai me confiou todas as coisas.Ninguém conhece verdadeiramente o Filho a não ser o Pai, e ninguém conhece verdadeiramente o Pai, a não ser o Filho e aqueles a quem o Filho escolhe revelá-lo.” Mateus 11:25-27

Nessa passagem, Jesus agradece a Deus, pela revelação dada aos seus pequeninos, de quem Ele realmente é (o Filho de Deus),e deixa claro que, esse conhecimento só é dado pelo Espírito de Deus, a quem o mesmo escolhe revelar sua verdade e propósito. Aos sábios desse mundo, nada é revelado, uma vez que já escolheram confiar em sua própria sabedoria.

Deus escolhe “os que são como crianças”, não os puros de coração, como tendemos a pensar, mas sim os menos importantes, os que não são considerados pela sociedade, os desprezados. Se analisarmos com atenção os escolhidos de Deus ao longo da história,veremos que em sua maioria eram pessoas sem importância e sem muita instrução.

Ele escolhe os pequenos para mostrar como Seu poder é grande, para ridicularizar a sabedoria desse mundo, e o que ela valoriza.

Como diz a passagem em I Coríntios 1:27-28 “Mas Deus escolheu as coisas loucas deste mundo para confundir as sábias; e Deus escolheu as coisas fracas deste mundo para confundir as fortes;E Deus escolheu as coisas vis deste mundo, e as desprezíveis, e as que não são, para aniquilar as que são.”
