Let me ask you something: Do you think that debating on the internet about every polemic issue, using the principles of the Gospel, it’s effective?! Because I have seeing that a lot. Really, a lot!

Social media had become a bloody battle field, where what really matters it’s to prove that we are right, by any cost. But are we?!

And do you want to hear the best part?! Most of people who like to argue on social media, claiming to be a defensor of the Gospel, usually don’t spend enough time reading their bible! (The level of their arguments and behavior shows it). Isn’t that really interesting?!

However, I have to admit: I was this kind of person, untill few years ago. Before I became an Christian, I always liked to debate! Specially politics matters, I always loved it! And, in my head, my arguments were pretty good. It was really hard that some person would make me change my mind.

Then, I surrender my life to Jesus. For a while, I left this behavior kind of “asleep”. But at some point, during the elections in Brazil, it came back, really strong! I remember posting about it and comenting in all my friends’ posts about policits. I would argue with them, trying to convice that their politic views were all wrong.

Then, the Holy Spirit started to act in my heart toward this behavior and I repented. I asked for forgiviness to the friends I was arguing with, and I quit it!( At least, on this subject)

Some time later, I started to study theology. Same behavior again. I used to bring all the polemic topics of the bible that people usually disagree, during the class and I would started to debate, but not in a very healthy way. God called my attention again! Actually, He said to me: “Drop this course. This is not doing any good to you!”

So, you see my point here?! The Gospel it is not a instrument to win a battle of “good arguments” to convince people that they are wrong in their beliefs! That it’s not our role.

The One responsable to change people’s minds is the Holy Spirit, not us. We don’t need to convince anyone, much less argue with them about polemic issues, like abortion or homossexuality, just with the intention of wining a discussion. We are called to preach the simple Gospel: The Gospel of the cross, the redemption that Jesus gives to everyone of us trhough His death and ressurrection. That’s it.

I know that there are a lot of things that we could preach to go further but, let the Holy Spirit do the job of changing people’s hearts and minds. And just do yours: Live a life that honors God and reveals Him to people around you.

What God said to me when I was reading through 1 Corinthians 1-2 this morning was: People are failing in the basic matters. Christians who don’t not read their bible, who don’t spend time with God are out there, posting a lot of non-sense in social media and arguing with people who don’t know God! How it can be effective?!

First of all, go read your bible, for Christ sake! How can you present Jesus or even an biblical argument in a (healthy) discussion, if you don’t know what you are talking about? You’ve never read the whole bible, but you love to debate about Christian principles on internet. Great job!

I don’t want to sound bossy or arrogant here. I am just saying that because, I used to love doing this kind of thing and I know that it produces no good to ourselves or people around us. We are called to give a good testimony in everything we do. This is what God expects from His children.

Let’s drop the atittude and put into action what the Bible declares: That we have the mind Christ and we are able to discern things in our sipirit. We can ask for wisdom and be lead by the Lord to do and to say the right thing!

This is the only way we’ll help others to see the truth and believe that we serve a real and merciful God! Do what you are called to do. Start with the basics.

“The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.  For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.  What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us.” (…)

“The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. The person with the Spirit makes judgments about all things, but such a person is not subject to merely human judgments, ¹⁶ for, “Who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?

But we have the mind of Christ.” (1 Corinthians 2:10-16)

Pelo que você está lutando?!

Ei você!

Deixe-me perguntar uma coisa: Você acha que debater na internet sobre cada questão polêmica, usando os princípios do Evangelho, é eficaz?! Porque eu tenho visto muito isso. Muito mesmo!

As redes sociais se tornaram um campo de batalha sangrento, onde o que realmente importa é provar que nós estamos certos a qualquer custo. Mas será que nós estamos mesmo?

E você quer ouvir a melhor parte?! A maioria das pessoas que gostam de discutir nas redes sociais, afirmando ser defensores do Evangelho, geralmente não passam muito tempo lendo suas bíblias!(Nota-se pelos argumentos). Não é interessante?!

No entanto, eu tenho que admitir: eu era esse tipo de pessoa, até alguns anos atrás. Antes de me tornar cristã, eu sempre gostei de debater! Principalmente questões de política, eu amava! E, na minha cabeça, meus argumentos eram muito bons. Era muito difícil alguém me fazer mudar de ideia.

Então, eu entreguei minha vida a Jesus. Por um tempo, eu deixei esse comportamento meio que “adormecido”. Mas em algum momento, durante as eleições no Brasil, voltou com força total! Eu me lembro de postar sobre isso e comentar em todos os posts dos meus amigos sobre política. Eu discutia com eles, tentando convencer que seus pontos de vista estavam todos errados.

Então o Espírito Santo começou a me confrontar em relação a esse tipo de comportamento, e eu me arrependi. Pedi perdão aos amigos com quem estava discutindo e parei! (Pelo menos, nesse assunto)

Algum tempo depois, eu comecei a estudar teologia. De novo, mesmo comportamento. Eu costumava trazer todos os tópicos polêmicos da bíblia, aqueles que as pessoas costumam discordar, durante a aula e eu começava a debater, mas não de uma forma muito saudável.

Deus chamou minha atenção novamente! Na verdade, Ele me disse: “Abandone esse curso. Isso não está fazendo nenhum bem para você!”

Então, você entende o meu ponto aqui?! O Evangelho não é um instrumento para vencermos uma batalha de “bons argumentos”, para convencer as pessoas de que elas estão erradas em suas crenças! Esse não é o nosso papel.

O responsável por mudar a mente das pessoas é o Espírito Santo, não somos nós. Não precisamos convencer ninguém, muito menos discutir com eles sobre questões polêmicas, como aborto ou homossexualidade, apenas com a intenção de ganhar uma discussão.

Somos chamados a pregar o Evangelho simples: o Evangelho da cruz, a redenção que Jesus concede a cada um de nós através da sua morte e ressurreição. É isso.

Eu sei que há muitas coisas que poderíamos pregar para ir mais a fundo, mas deixe o Espírito Santo fazer o trabalho de mudar os corações e mentes das pessoas. E apenas faça o seu: Viva uma vida que honre a Deus e O revele às pessoas ao seu redor.

O que Deus me disse quando eu estava lendo 1 Coríntios 1-2 esta manhã foi: “As pessoas estão falhando no básico.” Cristãos que não leem a bíblia, que não passam tempo com Deus, estão por aí, postando um monte de besteiras nas redes sociais e discutindo com quem não conhece a Deus! Como isso pode ser eficaz?!

Em primeiro lugar, vá ler sua Bíblia, pelo amor de Deus! Como você pode apresentar Jesus ou mesmo um argumento bíblico em uma discussão (saudável), se você não sabe do que está falando? Você nunca leu a Bíblia inteira, mas adora debater sobre os princípios cristãos na internet. Bom trabalho!

Não quero soar mandona ou arrogante aqui. Só estou dizendo isso porque costumava adorar fazer esse tipo de coisa e, eu sei que isso não traz nenhum bem para nós mesmos ou para as pessoas ao nosso redor. Somos chamados a dar um bom testemunho em tudo o que fazemos. Isso é o que Deus espera de Seus filhos.

Vamos deixar de lado essa péssima atitude e colocar em ação o que a Bíblia declara: Que temos a mente de Cristo e somos capazes de discernir as coisas em nosso espírito. Podemos pedir sabedoria e ser guiados pelo Senhor para fazer e dizer a coisa certa!

Esta é a única maneira de ajudarmos outros a enxergar a verdade e fazê-los acreditar que servimos a um Deus verdadeiro e misericordioso! Faça a sua parte, faça o básico.

“O Espírito sonda todas as coisas, até mesmo as coisas mais profundas de Deus.  Pois, quem conhece os pensamentos do homem, a não ser o espírito do homem que nele está? Da mesma forma, ninguém conhece os pensamentos de Deus, a não ser o Espírito de Deus. Nós, porém, não recebemos o espírito do mundo, mas o Espírito procedente de Deus, para que entendamos as coisas que Deus nos tem dado gratuitamente. ” (…)

“Quem não tem o Espírito não aceita as coisas que vêm do Espírito de Deus, pois lhe são loucura; e não é capaz de entendê-las, porque elas são discernidas espiritualmente. Mas quem é espiritual discerne todas as coisas, e ele mesmo por ninguém é discernido; pois “quem conheceu a mente do Senhor para que possa instruí-lo?” Nós, porém, temos a mente de Cristo.” (1 Coríntios 2:10-16)
