Better to obey than to sacrifice!

“My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline,
    and do not resent his rebuke,
¹² because the Lord disciplines those he loves,
    as a father the son he delights in.” (PROVERBS 3:11-12)

Hey friends! How are you doing?

Today, reading the Scriptures in I Samuel, I went through this passage where the Lord confronts Eli, because all the evil his sons were doing as priests in the temple. Their fame was bad between the people because they used to steal the best part of every sacrifice for them! As priests, they could have a part of it, but they were so greedy that they never waited until the end of the offering process:

^” Eli’s sons were scoundrels; they had no regard for the Lord. ¹³ Now it was the practice of the priests that, whenever any of the people offered a sacrifice, the priest’s servant would come with a three-pronged fork in his hand while the meat was being boiled ¹⁴ and would plunge the fork into the pan or kettle or caldron or pot. Whatever the fork brought up the priest would take for himself. This is how they treated all the Israelites who came to Shiloh. ¹⁵ But even before the fat was burned, the priest’s servant would come and say to the person who was sacrificing, “Give the priest some meat to roast; he won’t accept boiled meat from you, but only raw.” If the person said to him, “Let the fat be burned first, and then take whatever you want,” the servant would answer, “No, hand it over now; if you don’t, I’ll take it by force.” (1 Samuel 2:12-15)

So Eli knew about it, first because people gossiped about it and second, the Lord confronted him!

 “Why do you^[e] scorn my sacrifice and offering that I prescribed for my dwelling? Why do you honor your sons more than me by fattening yourselves on the choice parts of every offering made by my people Israel?”

Even knowing all the evil his sons were doing, Eli decided to look away and did nothing about it! I believe that the Lord were patient with him, giving him more than one chance to redeem the situation and punish his sons, but he chose not to! That’s why the Lord broke the covenant with his family and punished his sons with death!

“The time is coming when I will cut short your strength and the strength of your priestly house, so that no one in it will reach old age, ³² and you will see distress in my dwelling. Although good will be done to Israel, no one in your family line will ever reach old age. ³³ Every one of you that I do not cut off from serving at my altar I will spare only to destroy your sight and sap your strength, and all your descendants will die in the prime of life.‘And what happens to your two sons, Hophni and Phinehas, will be a sign to you—they will both die on the same day. ³⁵ I will raise up for myself a faithful priest, who will do according to what is in my heart and mind. I will firmly establish his priestly house, and they will minister before my anointed one always. “

That was what he get for desobeyng and disohonored the Lord and his house! Even when he had more than one chance, because the Lord spoke through Samuel again, he chose to desobey!

I know that is not easy to do the right thing sometimes! This walk of growth and intimacy with the Lord can be very challenging! Sometimes, we will have to rennounce things, pride, self-preservation, time and money to obey His will!

As I said before, the Lord is always patient with us, I can tell that! There were a lot of times when I decided not to obey Him, just to preserve myself in some way.

However, He will not wait forever! When we become more mature on this path, the Lord demands more responsability and quick responses! Whenever we say no to Him, we will have to deal with the consequences of it, always!

It is not easy to obey, because that requires humility and trust! We are not always willing to rennounce our pride, confort or whatever, but like it says in I Samuel 15:22:

“Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the Lord? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams.”

No matter how challenging might be what God is asking us to do, is always better to do His will than to sacrifice our lives in silly mistakes! Every time we made a bad choice, we are sacrificing time, efford and ourselves in vain!

Remember that He is a good Father and He will never ask you to do something that will make you harm!

He wants a healthy life for you and freedom for you to be exactly what He created you to be!

So be brave and step in this place of obedience, knowing that the Lord rewards those who loves Him!

Melhor obedecer do que sacrificar!

“ Meu filho, não despreze a disciplina do Senhor,
e não se ressinta de sua repreensão^, porque o Senhor disciplina aqueles a quem ele ama,
como um pai que se deleita no filho. ” (PROVÉRBIOS 3: 11-12)

Olá amigos! Como vocês estão?!

Hoje, lendo as Escrituras em I Samuel, examinei esta passagem onde o Senhor confronta Eli, por todo o mal que seus filhos estavam fazendo como sacerdotes no templo.

A fama deles era bem ruim entre as pessoas, porque costumavam roubar a melhor parte de todo sacrifício pra eles! Como sacerdotes, eles poderiam ter uma parte, mas eram tão gananciosos que nunca esperavam até o final do processo de sacrifício:

^“ Os filhos de Eli eram uns canalhas; eles não tinham consideração pelo Senhor. ¹³ Agora era o prática dos sacerdotes que, sempre que qualquer pessoa oferecia um sacrifício, o servo do sacerdote vinha com um garfo de três pontas na mão enquanto a carne estava sendo fervida ¹⁴ e mergulhava o garfo no panela ou chaleira ou caldeirão ou panela. O que quer que o garfo trouxesse, o sacerdote tomaria para si. É assim que tratavam todos os israelitas que iam a Siló. ¹⁵ Mas antes mesmo da gordura ser queimada, os o servo do padre vinha e dizia à pessoa que estava sacrificando: “Dê ao sacerdote um pouco de carne para assar; ele não aceitará de você carne cozida, mas apenas crua”. Se a pessoa lhe dissesse: “Queime primeiro a gordura e depois pegue o que quiser”, o servo respondia: “Não, passe agora; se não, pego à força. ” (1 Samuel 2: 12-15)

Eli sabia sobre isso, primeiro porque as pessoas fofocavam sobre isso e, segundo, o Senhor o confrontou!

“Por que você ^{[ e ]} despreza meu sacrifício e oferta que prescrevi para minha morada? Por que você honra seus filhos mais do que a mim, engordando-os com as partes escolhidas de cada oferta feita por meu povo de Israel? “

Mesmo sabendo de todo o mal que seus filhos estavam fazendo, Eli decidiu desviar o olhar e não fez nada a respeito!

Acredito que o Senhor foi paciente com ele, dando-lhe mais de uma chance de redimir a situação e punir seus filhos, mas ele optou por não fazê-lo! E por isso, o Senhor quebrou a aliança com A sua família e puniu seus filhos com a morte!

“O tempo está chegando quando eu cortarei a sua força e a força de sua casa sacerdotal, para que ninguém nela chegue à velhice, ³² e você verá angústia em minha morada. Embora o bem seja feito a Israel, ninguém em sua linhagem familiar jamais chegará à velhice. ³³ Cada um de vocês que eu faço não impedido de servir em meu altar, pouparei apenas para destruir sua visão e minar sua força, e todos os seus descendentes morrerão no auge da vida. ‘E o que acontecer com seus dois filhos, Hophni e Phinehas, será um sinal para você – ambos morrerão no mesmo dia. ³⁵ Eu levantarei para mim um sacerdote fiel, que fará de acordo com o que está em meu coração e mente. Eu estabelecerei firmemente sua casa sacerdotal , e eles ministrarão sempre diante do meu ungido. “

Isso foi o que Eli e sua família ganharam por desobedecer e desonrar o Senhor e Sua casa! Mesmo quando ele teve mais de uma chance, porque Deus falou por meio de Samuel novamente, mesmo assim ele escolheu desobedecer!

Como eu disse antes, Deus é sempre paciente conosco, isso eu posso dizer! Muitas vezes eu decidi não obedecê-lo, apenas para me preservar de alguma forma. No entanto, Ele não vai esperar para sempre!

Quando amadurecemos neste caminho, o Senhor exige mais responsabilidade e respostas rápidas! Sempre que dissermos não a Ele, teremos que lidar com as consequências disso, sempre!

Não é fácil obedecer, porque isso requer humildade e confiança! Nem sempre estamos dispostos a renunciar ao nosso orgulho, conforto ou o que quer que seja! Mas como diz em I Samuel 15:22:

“O Senhor se agrada de holocaustos e sacrifícios tanto quanto de obediência? Porque obedecer é melhor do que sacrificar, e obedecer é melhor do que a gordura de carneiros.”

Não importa o quão desafiador possa ser o que Deus está nos pedindo para fazer, é sempre melhor fazer a Sua vontade do que sacrificar nossas vidas em erros tolos! Cada vez que fazemos uma escolha errada, estamos sacrificando tempo, esforço e a nós mesmos em vão!

Lembre-se de que Ele é um bom Pai e nunca pedirá que você faça algo que o prejudique! Ele quer uma vida saudável para você e liberdade para que você possa ser exatamente o que Ele o criou para ser!

Portanto, seja corajoso e entre neste lugar de obediência, sabendo que o Senhor recompensa aqueles que o amam!
