Do you want to be popular or do you want to be INFLUENTIAL?

Hey friends! How you doing?

In times of lockdown, with the increasement of comunication by social media and the changing of social dynamics, I want you to think about today’s question: Do you want to be popular or do you want to be a influential person?!

First of all, lets take a look in what means the word popular: “regarded with favor, approval, or affection by people in general; suited to or intended for the general masses of people; commom.“

Well, lets be honest, in times of social isolation where everybody needs to use the internet to comunicate (most of the time), I can understand the power of having “approval and affection” by people in general. Even knowing that “in general” means that very often it does not apply for real life, real situations.

When we think about the second definition: “Suited to or intended for the general masses or commom”, the word begin to lose it’s bright, right? Because the truth is that POPULAR is something that everybody has or agree with, but that does not means something GREAT!

On the other hand, if we think about the word “influential“, it means: “Able to influence someone or something” and also “dominant, leading, persuasive, significant, strong, prominent, affecting,  efficacious, governing, impressive, inspiring, meaningful!”

So, asking again: Which one do you want to be?!

Popular people has a lot of opinions and they like to share it! But very often, those opinions does not carry meaning or value! It can even hurt and misslead those who follow them. The fact of something be “trendy” does not means that is GOOD or TRUTH! And we have to be careful about it.

In our days we see a lot of people sharing trending topics without check the veracity of that before spread it around. Popular information can be dangerous and guide people to the wrong direction!

I don’t know if that apllies to you but, if you are a believer, a follower of Christ, you KNOW that the TRUTH is more important than opinions and trend topics! And there is only ONE TRUTH ABOVE ALL: Jesus is Lord!

In times of relativism, we christians are called to be rooted in the TRUTH that never changes: The Word of God! I know that is hard sometimes, to follow the truth no matter what, regardless of people’s opinion, but this IS OUR CALLING!

We are called to speak the truth of God through our LIVES! We are called to be INFLUENTIAL PEOPLE, being popular or not!

Influential people has strong CONVICTIONS, not opinions! Our opinions can change with time and maturity but our convictions, based on the truth of the GOSPEL, must stand above all!

Most of the time, be INFLUENTIAL means that we are running against POPULARITY, and we need to make a choice: We will live by the Fear of the Lord or by the fear of men?!

Our main conviction need to be rooted in Jesus, the One who died and raised from the dead for us and who is seated on the right hand of the Father. All the rest must follow that CONVICTION.

As believers, we can have different opinions about different and less important subjects, like teology or politics.However, Jesus as Lord and savior, must be our CORE BELIEF, OUR FOUNDATION.

He is the way, the truth and the life, there is no other.

I just want to finish by saying this: Reflect about what are your CONVICTIONS and what are your OPINIONS. Because it is important to know that people outthere need to look to us and see in our lives the convictions of the cross, but very often they don’t need to hear our opinions about a lot of things!

VOCÊ QUER SER POPULAR OU INFLUENTE?!

E aí pessoal! Como vai?

Em tempos de isolamento, aumento da comunicação pelas mídias sociais e mudanças na dinâmica social, quero que você pense na pergunta de hoje: Você quer ser popular ou quer ser uma pessoa influente?!

Primeiro, vamos dar uma olhada no que significa a palavra popular: “considerado com favor, aprovação ou afeto pelas pessoas em geral; adequado ou destinado às massas de pessoas; comum”.

Bem, vamos ser honestos, em momentos de isolamento social em que todos precisam usar a Internet para se comunicar na maioria das vezes, eu posso entender o poder de ter “aprovação e carinho” das pessoas em geral. Mesmo sabendo que esse “em geral” significa que muitas vezes não se aplica à vida real, a situações reais.

Quando pensamos na segunda definição: “adequada ou destinada às massas ou comum”, a palavra começa a perder o brilho, certo? Porque a verdade é que POPULAR é algo que todos têm ou concordam, mas isso não significa algo bom ou INCRÍVEL!

Por outro lado, se pensarmos na palavra “Influente“, ela significa: “Capaz de influenciar alguém ou algo” e também “dominante, líder, persuasiva, significativa, forte, proeminente, afetante, eficaz, governante, impressionante, inspiradora, significativa! “

Então, eu te pergunto novamente: Qual deles você quer ser?!

As pessoas populares têm muitas opiniões e gostam de compartilhá-las! Mas muitas vezes essas opiniões não têm significado ou valor! Elas podem até machucar e enganar aqueles que as seguem. O fato de algo estar “na moda” não significa que seja BOM ou VERDADEIRO! E temos que ter cuidado com isso.

Em nossos dias, vemos muitas pessoas compartilhando tópicos populares, sem verificar a veracidade disso antes de divulgá-lo. Informações populares podem ser perigosas e guiar as pessoas na direção errada!

Não sei se isso se aplica a você mas, se você é cristão, um seguidor de Cristo, você SABE que a VERDADE é mais importante do que opiniões e tendências! E existe apenas UMA VERDADE ACIMA DE TUDO: Jesus é o Senhor sobre todas as coisas!

Em tempos de relativismo, nós cristãos somos chamados a estar enraizados na VERDADE que nunca muda: A Palavra de Deus! Sei que às vezes é difícil seguir a verdade, independentemente da opinião das pessoas, mas esse é o nosso chamado!

Somos chamados a falar a verdade de Deus através de nossas VIDAS! Somos chamados a ser INFLUENTES, independente de sermos populares ou não!

Pessoas influentes têm fortes CONVICÇÕES, não opiniões! Nossas opiniões podem mudar com o tempo e a maturidade, mas nossas convicções, baseadas na verdade do Evangelho, devem permanecer acima de tudo!

Na maioria das vezes, ser INFLUENTE significa que estamos correndo contra a POPULARIDADE, e precisamos fazer uma escolha: Vamos viver pelo temor no Senhor ou pelo medo (da opinião) dos homens?!

Nossa convicção principal precisa estar enraizada em Jesus, Aquele que morreu e ressuscitou dentre os mortos por nós e que está assentado à direita do Pai. Todo o resto deve seguir essa CONVICÇÃO.

Como cristãos, podemos ter opiniões diferentes sobre assuntos diferentes e menos importantes, como teologia ou política. No entanto, Jesus como Senhor e salvador, deve ser nossa crença essencial, nosso FUNDAMENTO.

Ele é o caminho, a verdade e a vida, não há outro.

Eu só quero terminar dizendo o seguinte: Reflita sobre quais são suas CONVICÇÕES e quais são suas OPINIÕES. Porque é importante saber que as pessoas de fora nos olharão e elas precisam ver nas nossas vidas as convicções da cruz! Mas na maioria das vezes, elas não precisam ouvir nossas opiniões sobre muitas coisas!
