Hello guys.
Today I will continue the post about mathew 22:34-38 :
” 34 But when the Pharisees heard that He had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together. 35 Then one of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, and saying, 36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?”37 Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’38 This is the first and great commandment.”
I started writing about how we can love God with all our HEARTS and now, I’m going to talk about what it means to love God with all our “mind and soul”.
First of all, I want to say: this is not the only answer to that question, it’s just something that God put in my heart and I want to share with you, so keep your mind open!
This is a really deep subject and for me, learn to love God with all my soul was a big CHALLENGE! But He is so patient ,loving and faithful that He helped me in every step of this path.
Our soul it’s basically our “psychological package”: it’s where our thoughts, feelings and worldview stands, which impacts(and form) our identity. What makes we behave the way we do, impacting how we face all sort of situations in life.
So, loving God with all our thoughts, feelings, dreams, actions and so on, it’s kind of basis of what means to be a christian. It’s challenging, but it’s a process.
The psyche of men it’s constantly “bombed”with all kind of (useless) information.
As we grow, we learn through experience, examples and some teaching what means, for example, to be a good person.
Based in what you saw, heard and experienced you gonna define what it’s to be good, right? That it’s the trick part.
I believe most of people in the world had some real BAD experiences in life, like disappointment, be abandoned or lose someone.
That leaves a mark in our soul and affects the way we face our reality and situations through life.
Futhermore, we can add what we learned with our family, at school, with friends and people that surround us.
All that, will impact in a bad or good way our feelings, thoughts and point of view, that leads us to decisions.
These experiences are what makes us (believe) who we are and form our principles and worldview, most of the time.
Why am I saying all that?
Because when we FINALLY CHOOSE to TRUST and experience the LOVE OF GOD, in a personal and deep way, we are carrying all that stuff, wich definitely, affects our beliefs about who we are,our identity and also, who we think HE IS.
Loving God with all we are requests some time to trust in Him, to letting go of all the things that will get in the way of our love for Him!
It’s a process of learn again how to look at the world, and most important, how to look INSIDE of US with HIS EYES. Rediscovering what it’s true, what it’s REAL and what it’s not.
In my life, for example, I needed to learn, first of all, what it means to TRUST deeply in someone( who loves me), cause I did not knew what was that. I was always protecting myself from disappointment, always distrusting of people’s good intentions.
I had to went through a deep JOURNEY to know what means to be loved by a loving and good FATHER, who was waiting for a closing relationship with me!
Love with all your SOUL means you gonna have to STOP TRUSTING LIES about yourself, like “you are not worthy”, “you never gonna make it” or “you are not loved”.
The good news is: you can choose to do it everyday, with a big help of your heavenly Father.
And at last(but not least) you will learn how to love God with all your mind!
It’s kind of the “end” of this process. It’s when you trully understood who He is, you allowed Him to enter into your HEART; You said YES to the journey of rediscovering, learning everyday who you are and most important, who He is: a loving and good father.
It’s by the word of God and a close relationship with Him that you will build a SOLID FOUNDATION to understand your faith and go through life, trusting Him everytime.
Loving God with all YOUR MIND, It’s when you went deeper, everyday, in the truth of the Word and, you can finally see that it’s real, cause you proved and lived it.
Then, when you understand, you will explain to others, calling them, based on your own experiences and on the Word, showing why you decided to go through this path!
When you learn how to love God with all your heart, mind and soul, you finally are a mature disciple of Christ, and you can invite others to choose this path of LIFE IN ABUNDANCE and peace that goes beyond understanding.
That is what will make the second commandment possible: Love your neighboor as yourself!
